Surprise Party

Well tonight my daughter and son surprised me with a 50th birthday party!! I was totally surprised. I did think it was a little strange that my son and his girlfriend were coming in from Philly just to take us out to dinner. But I figured they had other plans with Josh's friends back here for the superbowl. (which they do) When he called his dad the other night to see if we would be available to go out for dinner, I thought that was strange. Of course, Jeff suggested that maybe they had gotten married and wanted to surprise us!! After Josh got here, I asked him where he wanted to eat and he said Gianilli's II. He even said that Sarah liked it the last time they were here and she might want to try the Alfredo sauce. So of course, I did not try to change it to another restaurant that I had a coupon for. (I love to use coupons when I eat out!!)
We walked in and they started back for a table, I said "don't you need to tell them how many?" Then when Josh said, "I think they know we are coming" I saw my daughter and a big long table of family and friends!! It was a wonderful surprise. Good food and good company made it a very special time. Thanks to all who came and to my sneaky children for planning this party!!

Bonding with Dr. House

I have been watching the TV show House for some time now. I am still trying to figure out Dr. House. He seems to have affection for certain characters on the show - Wilson, Cuddy, Camerson. But his arrogance and need to always be right interferes with his relationship building. When Wilson left, he truly missed his friendship and did everything to get him to come back. What is it that House wants?
I have noticed that when others on the show form bonds, he makes fun of them or talks about how it will affect their judgement. Is he afraid to open up to others for fear they will affect his judgement?
He was really puzzled by the teacher on tonight's show. She had an over abundance of patience and understanding for the special needs children in her classroom. She formed a strong bond with one autistic boy in particular. Is House incapable of forming a true bond with anyone? Maybe that is why he seemed so eager to tell Cuddy to give up her baby when she could not feel a bond with her. That baby really seemed to keep her eyes on Dr. House!! Maybe this baby will be the breakthrough for House!

He's Still Working On Me

Malachi 3:3 says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." Did you know how a silversmith refines silver? He holds it over a fire and lets it heat up. He has to watch it the entire time it is in the fire. If it is in the fire too long it will be destroyed. He knows it is ready to come out of the fire when he can see his image in it. God holds us in hot spots at times to refine us. While we are in the fire He keeps His eye on us.
Someone sent me an email concerning this and it made me begin to think about all the times God has let me go through things only to come out of them stronger than I went into them. He knows exactly what we need and when we need it. Often times when we think about God supplying all our needs we only think about our physical needs being met. But God also supplies what we need to grow and mature spiritually as well. He never lets us stay in the "fire" too long. And as we emerge each time we reflect Him more and more. This is how the world can see God in us. Did you ever hear the saying "I'd rather see a sermon than hear one."? We influence and lead others everyday, whether we know it or not. What are others seeing you reflect?

Beginner Blogger

Hi! I am almost 50 years old and decided it was time to start blogging. In this new decade of my life I hope to learn something new every day. (or at least every week) I have a very busy schedule at work and usually like to relax when I am home. I like to play scrabble both online and with my new Diamond edition board I got from my hubby. I have learned many new words when I play online. Did you know that qi is a word? How about za? They are!!
Lately I have been feeling pretty old. My bones ache, my skin is very dry and my gray hairs grow back quicker than I want. I like to take long hot baths to ease both my aches and dry skin. A good old bottle of hairdye takes the gray hairs away in just 25 minutes!!
I was visiting a Head Start classroom on Thursday and one girl asked me why I smelled like marshmellows!! I had to think for a moment and then replied it was probably because I was wearing vanilla perfume. I quess I could have smelled like something much worse....
